Please be sure to follow the directions given on your handout to sign up for Quizlet.  Two people tonight did not follow the directions, I have no ay of knowing who you are...but you were denied access.

Only those with an acceptable username will be added to the class.  If you have difficulty with the directions please see me in class tomorrow.

All Students

I hope you each had a wonderful first day!

A few things to get you started (& easy stuff for you to take care of!):

1.  Quizlet is ready for you to join!  Please follow the directions given on the handout today.  The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 12th.  If you have signed up, as directed, & "approved" into the class by that date you have a test grade of 100.  If you do not, you have a test grade of zero and still have to sign up for the site.  This is the only place your exam review information will be posted.  Nothing will be handed out in class.

2.  Please know your Castle Learning username & password.  I don't have access to them so can't help you with either.  There is nothing further you need to do with Castle Learning at this time.

3.  I will start entering names into Engrade next week, once schedule changes settle down.  Once that's done I will give you your personal password to my classes (which you can change once you sign in.)  There will be a deadline for you to "check in" on Engrade.  I will post that once I have all students entered into it.

4.  You will have homework due starting Monday so be sure to check back here Friday night for it (I hope to have it posted tomorrow but unsure if that will happen.)  You will have a quiz using your homework on the due dates, so be sure to have it done & with you in class every day.  You should have no problem copying off yourself and get 100, right?  :)

5.  Once you have your supplies, please feel free to see me at the end of your class period to show them to me.  I will be happy to mark you as "prepared" in advance of the September 15th deadline so you don't have to worry about it.  I will only check you off in advance if you show me all supplies listed.  Remember, a dollar store is the same paper as Staples, just with less fancy packaging.  Nothing wrong with a binder, paper, or highlighter form the dollar store!

Finally, if you need to reach me, you can email me at dramo@bufsd.org.  Please understand that I do not check email after 5 PM & it's hit or miss on the weekends.  Same for messages through Engrade, though you do not have that option yet.  Parents, please also understand that I have limited time to check email during the day (1 free period) & it is later in the day.  While I can generally get back to you quicker via email, it is not "instantaneous."

I look forward to seeing you in class again tomorrow.  Remember your paper, highlighter, & pens!

Required Supplies for 2014-2015

Both Global II or US History courses for the 2014-2015 school year require these supplies in class each day:
  • A binder (loose-leaf.)  A 1-2 inch binder for just my class is fine, or you may have a section in a much larger binder for my class.  However, if you have no dividers in a binder you are using for "everything" you will be considered unprepared.
  • Plenty of loose-leaf paper.
  • Several black ball point pens (not gel pens, you cannot use those on the Regents Exam so you shouldn't use them in class.)  You can use blue if you choose, but black is best for the Regents Exam so you might as well start getting used to their rules.  Don't bother with pencils either - you can't use them on the Regents, so you can't use them for any graded work, in or out of class.
  • A highlighter (any color, as long as it's a working highlighter.)

I have been to several different "dollar stores" in the area during the last week and each of them had the supplies listed above.  The paper, highlighters, & binders there are no different than they are anywhere else, so unless there is a great sales going on at Staples, Target, or any other larger store, don't waste extra money or time on line in those places.  In my experience "dollar store pens" don't always work well, so be sure to get an extra pack if you buy them from there.  No supplies will be handed out in class so be sure to have extras on just in case that happens!

All supplies are due in class no later than Monday, September 15th.  This will be a test grade.  Either you're in class with all required supplies as listed & described above or you are not -
100 or 0.

Please note:  It is not the responsibility of your classmates - or their hard-working parents - to supply you with a pen &/or paper in class.  I do not hand out any supplies.  I am asking you to have the basics you need for your other classes &, likely, things you already have at home.  Being prepared is one of your main roles as a student!

Welcome Back!

While we all hate to see summer vacation end, a new school year is always exciting as it gives a new start & another chance to do the very best you can.

You're getting older, you're one year closer to going out into the world on your own - this is your time to make the most of what's left of your High School career, head toward your goal of graduation & college (or work), and develop the skills you will need to have a career you love & a comfortable lifestyle as an adult.

I look forward to helping you have a productive & successful school year to assist in those goals.  History is not always easy, but if you are determined to do your best, do your work, be in class, and do your part you are already on track to an outstanding average.

I look forward to meeting you on Wednesday!

Required Supplies for all Courses, 2014/2015

In case you have found this site and are in my Global II or US History classes for the 2014-2015 school year, here is a list if the supplies you will need to have with you in class each day:
If you or your parents are like me you/they won't want to wait on huge lines the first weeks of school to get your supplies.  I have been seeing a lot of sales in many stores  already as well.  You are expected to be in school, prepared with at least a notebook or binder with paper and pens on the first day.  This is true for every teacher you have on your schedule.

I look forward to seeing you next week!  Enjoy the rest of the summer!
