Averages

2nd Quarter averages for GLOBAL have been entered & saved in ESchool.  Want to know what it is?  Check Engrade.  Your average reflects the work you turned in, or maybe didn't bother to turn in.  There are no surprises.  You did passing work, as shown in the gradebook, you passed.  If you didn't, then you didn't!

With half the year gone, it's literally now or never.  Some of you are now doomed to repeat this course next year.  Some of you are one failing marking period away from that fate.
Make a decision.  Are you going to pass, or are you going to be a 10th grader AGAIN next year?

See you Friday.

PS - While US History grades have not yet been entered, the same applies to you.  Your midterms & Ch 12 test still need to be input, but everything else is in there.

Global II Students: A good background video

I would watch this video before class on Friday, it will help you.  You do not have to take notes on the video, but it might be a good idea.

Study your Quizlet Sets!

Everything you need for your current chapters has been in Quizlet since last Friday.  Study ALL sets since, like your other exams, the Midterm is cumulative.  Just a reminder, there is no extra credit tomorrow.  It counts as 55% of the Midterm grade.  No time for make ups since next week is Regents.

No extra credit or help tomorrow

No extra credit or extra help tomorrow.  I'm just too sick to stay after.

PENCIL AND PEN TOMORROW!!!!

...or you can't take the test until you get one, and a late pass.

I am checking pens & pencils AT THE DOOR, so have them out & ready.  Unprepared gets a zero as its own grade.

Midterm Updates

ALL STUDENTS:
  • The ESSAY portion of your midterm is Thursday, 1/23.  You should have several identical PENS with you.
  • The MULTIPLE CHOICE portion of your midterm in Friday, 1/24.  You need a pen AND A PENCIL to complete the scantron.
Quizlet was updated on Friday through your current Chapters.  Be sure to study them as your multiple choice - and some of your essay - depend heavily on that content.

Enjoy your snow day.  Go help an elderly neighbor by shoveling them out.  Then study!

Just in case...

As stated in class today, should we have a snow day tomorrow (and I tend to think we won't), your midterm is as scheduled.

However, should we get a snow day, as explained in class, your Essay (pen required) will be given on Thursday & the Multiple Choice (pen & pencil required) will be given on Friday.  Again, this is ONLY if we're off tomorrow.

Stay turned to News12, the Brentwood website, and local radio stations for updates on closings.

I hope you got home safely!

A quick but interesting article for you!

A very interesting article.  This was not uncommon among the Japanese because of the "island hopping" campaigns of WWII.  More on that in a few weeks...

Sneak Peak...

I thought you might want a sneak peak at the directions for your binder check (note quiz) on Tuesday...in case you need some extra incentive to do it, and do it correctly. :)

You do NOT have to copy the questions, only write the answers.  Copy exactly what is in your notes, since that’s how I’m grading this quiz.

Yes, they are in order.

No, there is no partial credit.  Your answer is fully correct or it is not.  All you had to do was COPY the notes, and all you have to do now is COPY them again.

You have 6 minutes to answer the 5 questions.

Global II: Updates

Your exam review for Chapter 29 is now up & "live" on Quizlet. Use them, along with Chapters 22-28 reviews, to study for next week's Midterm.  A message was also sent out via Engrade about this.

US History: Updates

Your exam review for Chapters 13 & 14 are now up & "live" on Quizlet.  Use them, along with Chapters 1-12 reviews, to study for next week's Midterm.

Notes posted, emails sent

US History & Global II students - your notes were put on Engrade, I the calendar under Tuesday, Jan. 21st since that's the date they are due in class.  Remember, hand-copied only. Print-outs will be confiscated.  You will have a binder quiz based on the notes in class (you can use the notes.)  Emails were sent via Engrade a little while ago.

Global II - there seems to be an issue with your PowerPoint.  An email was sent out & a separate post on the blog gives you instructions & deadlines should you run into the problem.  The deadlines are FIRM.  That means at 3:01 PM on Monday you are out of luck...and the time goes by my clock.

Be proactive & do your work NOW so you have the rest of the weekend to enjoy some time off and study for your midterm!

Global II Students...

The Chapter 29 notes have been posted on the Engrade calendar under Jan. 21st, the date the notes are due.  You will have a binder quiz on the notes that day.

Engrade gave me some trouble loading your Powerpoint.  On my screen it says it's loaded, but I'm not convinced.  If you cannot open it, EMAIL ME at dramo@bufsd.org & I will forward the powerpoint to your email address.  You MUST put your 1st & last name in the subject field or your email WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT BEING READ.

I will not have my computer on after 3 PM Monday, so be sure to email me before that time (or you will not hear back from me!!)  I will check my email periodically over the weekend...so the sooner you email, the more time you have to copy (IF you have trouble opening the powerpoint!  If you don't, you don't have to email!!)

Homework, all Courses

Be advised that you will be responsible for copying notes from Engrade (Powerpoint.)  You will not have the opportunity to copy them in class  We will go through them together & you will be given open notebook quizzes on them to make sure you have copied them, but there will be no time to copy them.

If you do not have internet access at home (that allows you to view powerpoints) you will need to make a friend that DOES have access to it so you can get the notes.  If you know of a friend that falls into this category, please be a good friend to them and inform them!!

As of today, thee are no plans to reinstate Engrade on school computers.  This decision was made by the District, not the High School.  The teachers have tried to get it reinstated but it doesn't look good.

I will post here & send an Engrade message once the notes are posted.  It will not be tonight!!

US History:

Only ONE person has bothered to look at Quizlet for Friday's test as of this post.

If this turns out to be the test we count as your midterm grade, AND if the school decides to count all midterms as 20% of your average...you could be screwed.

"No I won't, I do good on tests."

My response:  "How about when the multiple choice only counts for 55% of the Midterm grade because the THEMATIC ESSAY with TWO to THREE REQUIRED TOPICS counts for 45%?"

Still think not studying is a great option?  It might be...just not for passing.

US History Students: A Reminder about your Chapter 12 Worksheets

Good Morning Everyone ~

I hope you have all had a relaxing & enjoyable vacation!

I have posted the 3 Chapter 12 worksheets on today's date in the Engrade calendar (they are Word documents.)  These worksheets were handed out prior to the break.  You were responsible for completing them and having them with you in class tomorrow, Jan, 6th.  You will need them - completed - at the start of class.  If you failed to do them before the break as assigned, you'd better get them done today.  All extras were given out before the break, everyone absent had one placed in their folders or handed to them by me personally.  No excuse will be accepted or tolerated, especially since they are posted & available for downloading.  Having these completed will count as a test grade.  Any sheet half done/clearly had little effort = failing test grade.  Anyone arriving after I check the sheets is out of luck.  Be prepared, be on time, have all homework assigned, and be ready to go.  Your Chapter 12 test is this coming Friday.

See you tomorrow!
~ Mrs. Ramo
