This is a little longer than the average video I post for you to watch, but it is a very important part of American history. Listen to it while reading along with the handout I gave you. Answer the following questions while listening, keep the answers in your notes, and bring them with you to class.
1. What is the tone of the speech?
2. What message is Johnson trying to send with this speech?
Not from the speech directly:
3. Find 2 Great Society programs that still affect us today. List the name of the program, when it started, what it's goal was, and how it still affects our nation today.
4. Make a brief list comparing the programs of FDR's New Deal to Johnson's Great Society. Make special note of the goals of the programs. Two or three programs to compare from each is fine. Names of programs, New Deal or Great Society, the goals, do we still use them today.
5. Which speech do you find more inspiring - Kennedy's or Johnson's? Explain your opinion.
6. Which speech do you believe met more people's needs? Explain your opinion.
Remember: no HW = less Regents review. :(
BRING YOUR HANDOUTS TO CLASS EVERY DAY - YOU WILL NEED THEM AND WILL BE UNPREPARED IF YOU DON'T HAVE THEM!
