Quizlet...still learning the site myself

OK people who signed up...play around with the buttons and options.  If you do the test mode like I recommended, you get all of the questions at once (if you adjust the number on the bottom right.)  If you click the "learn" button, you get the questions one at a time.

Not sure if you get the answer 1st or the question that way, but try clicking "term first" to see if that helps.  It might not. :)

I will be adding to both Globals & US as I have time & we hit review.  Global II review starts with Geography, so that's what's up there now.  US Will start with Supreme Court cases, when we start.

Global II: Textbooks are due in class tomorrow - and it's a test grade!

The last homework assignment from your textbook is due tomorrow.  As you have been told in class for a week, your textbook is due tomorrow.

Please have it with you in class.  I will not allow passes (or late passes) for those who could not be bothered to have it with them.  having your book returned tomorrow is a test grade of 100 or 0 - you have it, didn't destroy it, it is the one you were issued...or you do not.

Can you afford a zero as a test grade?  I didn't think so...so have your book!  Plus, it's cheaper than your parents paying for a new one to replace the cruddy ones we sent home.

Global II Homework: 5/6-5/17/13

Assignments are no longer being accepted late.  There is no reason for you to be absent with less than 30 classes left before your Regents Exam.  If you are absent, be prepared to take a zero on anything due or that we do in class that day.  Attendance is pitiful lately, and last I read "field trips" are not required for graduation - but this course AND Regents Exam are.  Keep this in mind when you wake up and don't feel like going to school.

This is REVIEW!  If you can't find the information necessary on the page numbers provided in the Prentice Hall review book provided you need to do one of the following: use your prior knowledge (it is likely you already know the answer), go to your 9th grade notes, 10th grade notes, the Internet, review materials from class, Quizlet.com, Regentsprep.org, or a different review book.  Not answering a question is unacceptable since this information has all been covered at some point in the last two years.

INCOMPLETE WORK WILL EARN A GRADE OF ZERO FOR THE ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT.  I have provided page numbers whenever possible.  Work that shows little to no effort will not earn any credit.  Work not in proper format will not earn credit.  Do your work, take care to do it properly, and help yourself work toward a successful Regents score on June 13th!

There is no such thing as “late work” during Regents Review.  Turn it in by the date due or lose all credit on that assignment.  You are out of time for excuses!!!!!!
---------
·         Page numbers are provided for a general idea of where to find the answers to questions.
·         "NIB" means "not in book" - you must use one of the methods listed above to get the answer.

Any class: Hitler article & photos

With the anniversary of Hitler's death fast approaching, here is an article about those last days and some pictures of the inside of Hitler's bunker and some other interesting photos.

US History: Quizlet Set is ready!!

For those of you signed up for Quizlet, use it as a serious review tool. The Supreme Court Cases #1 "Set" has just been finalized, so if you have played around in it before 4:40 PM today, there are a bunch more questions & flash cards added.

If you want to be sure you use your time well, here is my recommendation:
- Sign into Quizlet.com
- Once in your class, click on "sets," then Global Regents Review: Geography (I don;t have the student version so I don't know if it automatically comes up for you.)
- UNCLICK all question types EXCEPT "written"
- UNCLICK all prompts except "definition"
- Type "31" into the question number box (so you see them all)
- Click on "reconfigure."

You are not proficient at the theme of Geography for multiple choice purposes until you can answer these questions, as fill ins, and get them all correct. That said - I took the test myself just to try it out. If you have the same answer answer as mine, consider it correct even if marked wrong. I deliberately put answers that were correct but not identical to those I entered, and the site marked them wrong. You'll know if that happens, and since I can see your grades you probably want to print out your answers to turn in so I can see that your score is higher than you got credit for.

Notice I said "proficient" and not "perfect." There's a difference...

These flash cards can also be used as a study guide with the ones we make in class. Practice is the one & only way to pass this exam, so you might as well get a head start. The information has been covered this year through classwork, notes, &/or homework.

Good Luck - and keep practicing!!

US History Homework: The Warren Court

Watch this video (made by another teacher and geared toward your Regents Exam):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XRmBYpMWqY

After watching the video, write a 2-3 page paper on the Warren Court that includes the following:
- What it was
- What the Warren Court did to be so important
- Cases that the Warren Court decided (at least 5)
- Decisions of those cases
- Why the Court ruled the way it did in those cases

DUE:  Thursday, 5/2  No exceptions.
Remember, it's the 4th Quarter...so nothing is accepted late.
Period.

US History Homework: Civil Rights Movement Timeline

Write a time line of the Civil Rights Movement using this video - and no other source.  Give a brief description of each event (you can refer to your textbook as necessary for this part.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX_S7y_iiMg

I created a timeline using the same instructions I just gave you, so yours needs to match mine for credit...which really means you can't skip the video and use a different source.  Nice try, but I was your age once... :p

DUE:  Wednesday, 5/1.  No exceptions.

Remember, it's the 4th Quarter...so nothing is accepted late.
Period.

Global II: Geography Quizlet Set is ready!

4:05 PM, Quizlet signup is now over

The title says it all.

29 minutes until you are locked out of Quizlet!

It is 3:31 PM...which means in 29 minutes you will not be approved for Quizlet.com in 30 minutes, 31 minutes, or 32 minutes...or any other time after 29 minutes from now.

I hate to think that some of you are going to test me on this deadline.  It's called a deadline for a reason, and it will not be extended or changed.  Those of you not on the site simply won;t have access to the work.

Welcome to the "real world" of personal responsibility and being held accountable for your actions (or lack thereof.)  Do the right thing or live with the mistake.  Last "warning post."

BTW, it's 4 PM on MY CLOCK.  Not yours.  I'm using the clock on my computer.  I'd give yourself a 5 minute cushion.  It's like getting a 64 on the Regents...so close, but you still failed & there's nothing that can be done about it. :(

Final Exams (NOT Regents Exams!!)

Periods 2, 6, & 7 are required to attend class during the Final Exam period specified below.  While it is my option to give you a final exam, I usually do a final Regents Review.  I'll give you a zero if you aren't there as a final exam grade.

Periods 3 & 4 have an actual final exam and are required to be in class to take this exam.  You cannot pass without taking and doing well on this test.

This message is posted for parents & students alike to see when final exam periods are.  The general rule for all subjects is any course with a Regents Exam also utilizes final exam time for either a teacher's final exam that counts separate from the Regents or simply Regents Review.  Either way, student attendance is mandatory in all courses on all days.  Students should report to the cafeteria for periods they have lunch or study hall, or after a final exam for a half year course is over.  To be clear, none of the courses are teach are "half year," every one of them is "full year."

Quizlet list as of 9:20 AM Sunday

As of 9:20 AM Sunday, 4/28, the following people have applied to & been approved for their class on Quizlet.com:

Periods 2 & 6:
Bianca H, Bianaca S, Carlos V, Daquan E, Dara L, Destiny S, Diana C, Elton V, Emmanuel M, Ilsia B, Jason S, Joel B, Karla M, Katherine R, Lachana T, Luis D, Marc B, Shayan M, Steven N, Vanessa C.

Periods 3 & 4:
Evelin L, Karla Q, Olga C.

Period 7:
Andrea B, Blanca N, Ashley P, Diana P, Katherine R, Keishan P, Monica O, Steven G.

That's it.

If you do not see your name listed under your class it is only for 1 of 2 reasons:
1.  You didn't do it
2.  You did it wrong, it which case you'd better fix it before 4 PM today.  Instructions were given out in class for 4 days and have been posted here for over a week.  Look for the posts.

Just 6.5 hours until this locks up for the year.  Please don't try excuses tomorrow - I will not entertain them.  It's been 9 days to so nothing but sign up for a site that takes less than 3 minutes to complete.  The work will be "closed" so only those signed up for each class can see it.  The grading is done online by Quizlet, so you can't print it out & try giving it to me that way, I won't take it.

This is a dumb thing to be lazy about since it could cost you a failing marking period and, like I said, you had 9 days to do something that takes 3 minutes and it isn't even blocked at school so you could have done it there if you don't have a computer at home.  Since no one approached me with that, that should not be an issue.

Denials & Deadlines on Quizlet.com

As of 10:20 pm Saturday, 4/27, I have approved every person who properly "applied" to be in a class on Quizlet.com.

If you "applied" but are one of the people who did not follow the directions, I have no idea who you are based on the name you used and, as warned, you were denied entry into the class.  How do you know if this is you?  Simple.  Check your email.  If you got an email saying your were approved, you're fine.  If you log in to Quizlet.com & you can see your class, you're fine.  if you cannot log in to your class OR you did not get an email saying you were approved, you were denied because of the name issue.  You likely got an email saying you are denied.  Fix it by 4 PM tomorrow or you will be shut out of the assignments for the remainder of the school year.

If you have not yet created an account, you have until 4 pm tomorrow.  Period.  After that, you will be shut out of the site for the remainder of the school year.

No sympathy.  You have had over a week and only need an email address to use.  It doesn't even have to be yours, just one you have access to.

Refer to earlier posts for directions as necessary.

Global II: Interesting Hitler article

I know many of you have this weird Hitler fascination (as do many adults) - I saw this article this morning and thought you might be interested in it.

If you read it, post a comment here to let me know what you thought of it.

Quizlet.com deadline is this Sunday, 4/28

80% of you have still not signed up.  I'm putting a deadline of Sunday, 4/28, on this one.  You've known for a week at that point, and all you have to do is go to Quizlet.com & sign up for the free one.

Remember, you MUST use your correct 1st & last name as your Username.  Comment on THIS POST once you have done it & list your Username.

After Sunday night I'm not adding anyone else, which means you can;t get the assignments.  I'm tired of telling 9th graders, 10th graders, & 11th graders the same thing for 5 days and writing it in 7 different places (literally) with it still not being done by the vast majority of you.  So here it is - do it by this Sunday or get no credit for any of those assignments.  Capice?

When you go sign in to Quizlet.com be sure to search for your class and request to be added.
Mrs. Ramo's Periods 2 & 6
Mrs. Ramo's Periods 3 & 4
Mrs. Ramo's Period 7

If you were sent an invitation to join the class and do not accept it by Sunday, I am deleting you from the class and you will have no access to the work.

I cannot see your email address, nor can I email you from the site.  Same for you with me.  Check the email address you use to sign up for updates & invitations once you request to be added to class.

Global II & US History Regents Review Supply Reminder!!

Please be advised that your students were told in class today that an extension until this Monday, 4/29, has been given to students in these courses.  However, all supplies on the list sent home several weeks ago must be in class with your student on Monday.  It's a test grade - they are prepared or they are not...and easy 100 added into their 4th Quarter averages.  Only 1 student has approached me with difficulties, so I expect to see everyone fully prepared on Monday (especially since no one said anything to me today about having difficulty and everything was due in class tomorrow!)

Students - refer to a previous post in April about required supplies on this blog if you can;t find the handout.  Photos of samples are available in that post as well.

See you tomorrow...with your homework...but not your supplies...
