LAST CHANCE ENDS AT 9 PM TONIGHT. Very. Last. Chance.

Lots of new Quizlet sets posted for
Global II & US History.

Global I has a final exam review already posted.

If you didn't bother to sign up when you were told to do so, you can request to be added to your class by this Friday for your last chance at online review on this site.

You must do the following:
  • Sign up for the FREE Quizlet using your REAL first & last name (as it appears on your paperwork at school.  No freaky screen names.)
    • Quizlet will recommend your name with numbers at the end if your name is already being used by someone else...that's fine.
  • Once registered, you must request to join your class.
    • US History is under "Mrs. Ramo's Period 7 Class."
    • Global II is listed under "Mrs. Ramo's Periods 2 & 6 Classes."
    • Global I is listed under "Mrs. Ramo's Periods 3 & 4 Classes."
  • If I recognize your first & last name (which means you registered as instructed), I will approve your request to be admitted into the class.
Here are a few things you should know:
  • I'm not doing a search for you.  That's your job - you search for your class, as instructed above.
  • I'm not approving anyone past 9 PM Friday night.  That's THIS Friday, 5/31.
  • Only those originally signed up are eligible for the extra credit that goes along with using the site
  • Using Quizlet is just as good as using your flash cards, especially if you play the speed games & test yourself.
You have 48 hours & 27 minutes before this last window of opportunity closes.

I will not extend it.

Don't bother asking.

The answer is NO.

Go do your homework, then sign up.

May 31st Review CANCELLED

NOT ONE STUDENT signed up for Friday's US History review, so it is now cancelled.

ONLY ONE person signed up for Friday's Global II review so it, too, is cancelled(To the person who signed up - you have first crack at a special review date I am adding the week of your Regents.)

Homework is REGENTS PREP WORK.

If you don't prepare yourself for the Regents,
YOU WILL FAIL IT.

NOT DOING YOUR HOMEWORK shows me you are too lazy to bother preparing yourself for a state assessment,
and it is my professional opinion that as a result
YOU WILL FAIL THE REGENTS.

Sign up deadline was yesterday.
So far I still have next Friday's review...but I guess we'll see what next week brings.

Remember, if YOU don't care, then I can't care.

Regents Exams are...

US History Regents Exam:
Wednesday, June 12th
8 AM (no matter what time any flyer you get or see that says 9:15)
You must have your identical pens, school ID, and you might have to go in through your "home building" and walk to the Sonderling gym once released from the "holding pen."  I'm checking on that, more to come next week.

Global H&G Regents Exam:
Thursday, June 13th
8 AM (no matter what time any flyer you get or see that says 9:15)
You must have your identical pens, school ID,  NOTHING ELSE.

Remember, no electronics of any kind, including accessories.  The state now has a written & published zero tolerance policy that we are forced to comply with, which means when you fail to follow that simple instruction you put yourself at risk for being dismissed from the Exam & the school declaring your test "invalid."

Final Exam dates & times for EVERY CLASS - REGENTS COURSES INCLUDED!!!!

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE:

PERIOD 4, Global I:
Final Exam is Friday, June 7th, from 9:13-10:38.
This is the "second session" on Friday.  Your final exam must be completed within this time period.  No additional time will be permitted.  Per district policy, anyone absent will receive a score of zero on the exam.  As I am proctoring & grading Regents Exams the following week a make up test will be impossible, even if school requirements for one are met.  Anyone late will not receive extra time.  You must have a #2 pencil and a standard blue or black pen to take the exam.  None will be given out.

PERIOD 7, US History & Government:
Final Exam Period is Friday, June 7th, from 10:50-12:15.
This is the "third session" on Friday.  Be prepared to take a practice exam & have it count toward your 4th Quarter average.  Anyone absent or unprepared will receive a score of zero on the exam.  Anyone late (within 10 minutes of the period starting) will lose 50 points for it, and anyone later than 10 minutes will receive a zero.  You have 12 minutes to get to class, so there is no such thing as "a minute pass" on final exam days. Be here, be prepared, be on time.  Regents seating assignments will be given out at this meeting.  Have your pens, highlighter, your notebook, tracker, and a few spare index cards.

PERIOD 2, Global II:
Final Exam Period is Monday, June 710th, from 7:36-9:01.
This is the "first session" on Monday.

Hello, this is reality calling. Do you have a minute?

You have EIGHT DAYS of classes left before finals & Regents.
EIGHT.

Are YOU:
  • Doing your homework?
  • In class?
  • Arriving on time?
  • Prepared for class?
  • Studying for your exam?

If you said "no" to ANY of these, you cannot possibly act surprised when you fail the 4th marking period.  Worse, you have no right to be "shocked" when the land of reality hits you between the eyes with a failing Final Exam or Regents Exam score.  Remember, we record the grade YOU give US.  If we get garbage from you to grade, your grade reflects that garbage work.

Global I (periods 3 & 4) has a FINAL EXAM.  it is not the same as last year's test, in case you thought it would be.

Global II (periods 2 & 6) & US History (period 7) have MANDATORY ATTENDANCE during their final exam slot, and also have a REGENTS EXAM.  Whether or not I give a final exam is up to me - the school allows my best discretion on how to use that final meeting with students.  What is NOT negotiable is being in class, as assigned, on time.  If I choose not to give a final exam, I will make timely attendance & preparedness the last double test grade of the year.  I do not have to do it for all classes, that too is my discretion.  This means that all students should arrive, on time, prepared, during their pre-determined final exam date/time.

No more email at home...

This post is to inform you that as of Friday evening I have been unable to access school email at home.  I have had this problem on a different computer in our home for several months & there seems to be no way to fix it.  Therefore, I can only read & respond to email while I am at school, which is generally from 7:30 - 2 PM.

I apologize that the convenience of me reading your emails and responding in the evening when I am no longer at work  is no longer available, but there is nothing on my end I can do to fix the situation.

Quizlet updates posted yesterday

More Quizlet review went up on the site yesterday for Global II, I added one for US earlier this week.  I hope to have time to add more to US & Global I this weekend.  If I do, and have free time left, I will add more Global II.

Keep checking the site for updates (or even added questions to those already posted!)

US & Global II Review: Friday, May 31st

This coming Friday's review ends at 7 PM.
Students are required to stay for the duration of review.
All students will need a ride home.

If your student signs up, please be on time to pick him/her up.  I have an obligation that requires me to arrive no later than 7:30 PM with a 25 minute travel time to get there, so I must leave promptly at 7 PM or will not be allowed to enter my own event.

The quickest place to pick up your student is behind my classroom.  Go to the end of Sonderling, make a right turn to continue in the parking lot around the building, and not too far down you will see a small parking lot on your right.  The room overlooks this small lot so students will be able to see you and run down to the door at the bottom of the stairs.  Please note that it is just past the dumpsters, not the spots located next to them.

Students who cut Friday's review cannot attend,  Students who are late to class, cut class, or don't do their homework as directed cannot attend.  They are welcome to attend Global Review on M, Th, & F in 2715 as well as W in 2528.  All are 2-3 PM.  I am unaware of any enrichment being offered by the district for US History.

Sign up sheets will go up Monday & remain in effect until Wednesday, the cut off to sign up.

FLASHCARDS!

Make flash cards on all of the following.  I want to know: when, where, who, what, effects, & importance as they apply to each topic.

You must have a “cover card” that has a regular heading on it.  Nothing else it to be on this card.  Do them just like in class – topic on front, information on back.

Your cards must be rubber banded together prior to class.  These will not be provided.  No rubber band, no homework accepted.  Note, please, that I did not say anything but a rubber band is acceptable.  I will not accept the work on paper, either.

Look where ever you need to for the information – no page numbers this time.  Use your review book, the Internet, etc.

Please be sure to number all cards for credit.

Review Attendees & those who "cut"

The following students attend review today form 2-5:30 PM:

Global:
Dara Lemes
Alyssa Epstein
Patrick Hansen
Emmanuel Mejia
Shayan Mahzar
David Contreras

US:
Nina Soto
Ashley Paez (3 pm arrival)
Brandon Hill

If you student is not listed above he/she did not attend.

There were 10 students who were also signed up for Global Reivew but failed to show up.  There were 3 US kids who also did not show up.  Only 1 was absent.  Unless there is a note from a parent, these students will not be allowed to sign up for next Friday's review.  Even with a note, admission to review may be denied.  Half the class was "spoken for" by these students, preventing others from attending due to space.  By blowing off review they denied 13 others the chance to review.  This is completely unacceptable.

Review Attendees ~

Remember, for tomorrow's review:
  • Go to your locker BEFORE 8th period.  You are having an early release drill so will not be able to go to your locker when they ring they bell.
  • You must be in my classroom by 2:10.  I am locking the door at 2:10 (by the clock in my room, not your phone.)  You will not be permitted in late
  • You should be able to get back in the main doors of the building.  If not, walk to the small parking lot behind my classroom & yell up, I'll send someone down to open the door.  Again, if you are not there by 2:10 I'm not opening the door.
  • Anyone walking home needs a note from a parent giving them permission to walk home at 5:30.
  • Bring a drink with you.
See you tomorrow!

Quizlet Updates for Regents Courses

I updated some more work on Quizlet for Global II & US History.  Don't forget to use it as a source for review!

US History Extra Credit: Ends Thursday, 5/23

What do you think...any resemblance to me?  Not the nose - mine isn't as narrow or pointy (at least I don't think so.)  Maybe the eyes?  Lips?  Chin?  I can see from the picture we do not have hair type in common. :)  (He is an ancestor of mine...which is why I asked about the resemblance.)

Oh wait...you thought I was at home making review for the US History kids?  Nope.  I'm roasting brussel sprouts and working on my family tree research.

Actually, this man is a part of US History.  First person to tell me why he is considered a "historical figure" gets 2 points added to their 4th Quarter Average.*  Post below with your answer, 1st name, & last name...or you are disqualified.

*Most complete answer wins, so if you are first to post do a good job! Ends at 3 pm Thursday, 5/23.

Friday review is ON!

Despite the notice you all received today during 2nd period about the emergency drill at 1:45 on Friday, Mr. Murphy has ordered 5:30 late buses for us.

You will have to leave the building.  bring everything you need to go home TO 8th PERIOD.  You can't go to your lockers AFTER 8th, including on your way to review.

If you can't get back in the front door, don't argue with the adult telling you no.  Walk to the back of the building near the classroom & yell up - NICELY - so someone can come let you in.

The 2:10 lock out time still applies, especially since you will now have 25 minutes to get there.  No one is opening the door for you after 2:10.  If you manage to get in the building on your own and get to my room after 2:10, you will be turned away.

So...follow those instructions if you signed up for review.  If you aren't doing your work so didn't sign up, I can only assume your plan is to fail.

Post-Assessments are WEDNESDAY!

Students, Parents, & Guardians ~

Please remember that post-assessments in Global I, Global II, & US History will be administered in your class this Wednesday, May 22As always, you are required to have a pen to take the exam.  Though not a Regents, it is a state exam and, for some courses, is required.  The District has decided to test all students just to be safe this year (this testing falls under the new state regulations so sometimes the rules are unclear or have changed on us mid-year.)

All students are required to be tested.

If you are absent on Wednesday, you will miss your class period review on Thursday to be removed so you can do the exam elsewhere.  It makes no sense to miss an additional review day - be in class Wednesday, on time, with your pen.  Study your review cards - the information is in line with Regents & Final Exams that we have been reviewing for so studying for this is the same as studying for the Regents Exam.  While this is nothing to stress out over, it is something to take seriously.

We are down to TWELVE CLASSES - that means only ELEVEN REVIEW DAYS thanks to the test...can YOU afford to miss another review day with so few left?  (Answer: No, you can't.)

Adults - students have been made aware of this daily for the last 2 weeks.

See you tomorrow, and be sure you are doing your homework nightly.  Have PLENTY of index cards with you...especially YOU, 7th Period.....
